Rights of Nature

A global map of ‘Rights of Nature’ initiatives, where natural entities are recognized or under consideration for independent legal status. Produced for the Rotterdam Bienale, the map is based on the database curated by Alex Putzer and the Eco-Jurisprudence Monitor, featuring over 400 initiatives across 40 countries between 2006 to 2024. Two alternate mapping approaches were explored, from a quantitative to territorial material perspective - both illustrating the global spread of environmental protection enabled through this growing and evolving movement.
